A concept for a European story development hub

In 2023 Das Kollaborativ took part in the Goethe-Institut’s RESONANCE programme, an initiative supporting the German-French cultural and creative industries. Together with the Toulouse-based screenwriter and lecturer Marie Maillos, Sebastian Herbst developed a concept for a European story development hub: a five-stage co-development programme in which German-French core groups of writers and producers work on series material together, from a first meeting in Occitania to a writing phase of several weeks near Berlin.

The programme deliberately sets itself against the vertical writers’ room logic of US productions. At its centre is a collaboration between equals that breaks down language barriers, takes fair pay for preparatory work into account and makes room for stories that reach beyond mainstream taste.
