Development Workshop

Format / Details / Development Workshop
How can we adapt the writers' room model of the American studio system for European writers?
In the Development Workshop we try out new forms of collaboration in story development. Methods from design thinking, improv theatre and software development meet the model of the American writers’ room. The approach is to move hierarchies away from the notion of the lone genius and to build a model that neither operates within a capitalist logic of performance nor makes the result depend on a single person and their creative output.
Supported and accompanied by experts from media studies and supervision, and with a team of writers and producers, we break open the classic development process for films, series and other media and build new structures for better collaboration and outstanding results.
The first workshop was accompanied by Timo Gössler, author of “The German Room” and professor of story development at the Film University Babelsberg, the supervisor Birgit Häusler and the media scholar Dr Florian Krauß. The evaluation of the results with regard to the methods has been published as an academic paper.
